πŸ• Italian Stromboli offers a delicious combination of classic Italian meats and melted cheese wrapped in soft, golden bread, perfect for a hearty meal.
πŸ§€ This recipe is simple to follow and provides a warm, flavorful dish that’s great for family dinners or casual gatherings.

  • Total Time: 8 hours 40 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 6-8 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Frozen bread dough or prepared pizza dough (enough to roll into an 8 by 13-inch rectangle)

Sliced pepperoni (layered to cover the dough)

Sliced capicola (layered on top of the pepperoni)

Freshly shredded mozzarella cheese (divided into one-third for the first layer and the remaining for the second layer)

1 tsp pizza seasoning

One egg mixed with water for egg wash

Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

1-Getting started: with Italian Stromboli is easier than you might think, and it begins with prepping your dough just right. First, defrost the frozen bread dough or prepared pizza dough in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours or overnight, then let it sit at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours before assembling. This step ensures the dough is pliable and ready to handle without tearing.

2-Next: preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to get it hot and even for baking. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle measuring about 8 by 13 inches, creating the perfect base for your fillings. Layer the sliced pepperoni over the dough, sprinkle one-third of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top, add the sliced capicola, and then sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese for that gooey center.

3-Don’t forget: to add one teaspoon of pizza seasoning along with salt and pepper to taste for extra flavor. Carefully roll the dough jelly-roll style, tucking and pinching the edges to seal everything in. Optionally, brush the top with the egg mixed with water and sprinkle any remaining pizza seasoning. Place the rolled dough on a greased baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let it cool for 1 to 2 minutes before slicing and serving warm with marinara sauce for dipping if you like.
