🥘 Baked Pierogi Casserole blends creamy cheese and savory potato-filled pierogi for a rich, comforting meal.
🧀 This dish is perfect for those who love hearty casseroles with smoky sausage and cheesy goodness in every bite.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 medium yellow onion, diced

2 tablespoons butter

2 boxes (16 oz each) frozen pierogi (potato and cheese variety recommended)

1 pound kielbasa or smoked sausage, sliced

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup milk (2% or whole)

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

3 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions

1-First: sauté the diced yellow onion in 2 tablespoons of butter until it’s soft and fragrant, which takes about 5 minutes; then set it aside.

2-Next, in a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, milk, sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until smooth, and stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese for a creamy base.

3-In a greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish, place the frozen pierogi directly from the package no need to thaw them.

4-Add the sliced kielbasa on top of the pierogi for that smoky flavor.

5-Layer the sautéed onions over the sausage and pierogi evenly.

6-Pour the cream cheese mixture over the entire casserole and sprinkle with the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese.

7-Cover loosely with aluminum foil that’s been sprayed on one side to avoid sticking, and bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.

8-Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the pierogi are tender and golden brown, reaching an internal temperature of 160°F.

9-Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving to let flavors set.
