Ingredients

– 1 pound dried spaghetti noodles (450g)

– 1 pound lean ground meat such as ground beef, ground turkey, or bulk Italian sausage (450g)

– 3 tablespoons olive oil

– 1 cup chopped onion (130g)

– 3 garlic cloves, minced (about 1 tablespoon)

– 2 tablespoons tomato paste

– Β½ teaspoon dried oregano

– Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

– 1 cup water, broth, or dry red wine (236ml)

– 1 (28oz) can crushed tomatoes

– Salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste

– Handful of fresh basil leaves, plus more for serving

– Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

2-While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sautΓ© for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, making sure not to burn it for the best flavor.

3-Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes to blend the tastes nicely.

4-Drain the cooked spaghetti, saving a cup of the pasta water. Mix the pasta into the sauce, stirring gently, and use the reserved water if the sauce needs thinning.

5-Serve right away, topped with fresh basil and Parmesan. This step lets you customize for different preferences, like adding more herbs for extra zest.
