Ingredients
24 frozen puff pastry shells [Forms the base of the appetizers]
8 ounces brie cheese [Provides creaminess when melted inside]
1/2 teaspoon raspberry jam per cup [Adds a sweet topping for flavor]
3 tablespoons toasted slivered almonds [Optional for added texture on top]
250g puff pastry sheets [Offers the light, flaky base essential for vol au vent]
150g cream cheese [Adds creamy texture and richness]
200g cooked shredded chicken [Serves as the main protein component]
100g mushrooms [Contributes earthy flavor and moisture]
1 medium onion [Enhances flavor depth]
2 cloves garlic [Adds aromatic zest]
2 tbsp fresh parsley [Provides herbaceous freshness]
Salt and pepper [Essential seasonings to taste]
Instructions
1-First, preheat your oven to 400ยฐF and place 24 frozen puff pastry shells on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake them for 18 to 20 minutes until they’re golden and puffed. Once done, press the center of each pastry cup down gently with a wooden spoon handle to create a well for the fillings.
2-Second, reduce the oven temperature to 350ยฐF after the initial bake. Now, sautรฉ diced onions and garlic in a pan with a bit of oil until translucent, then add chopped mushrooms and cook until soft. For added variety, you can draw inspiration from recipes like our chicken fritters recipe which offers similar protein ideas.
3-Third, incorporate shredded chicken into the pan, seasoning with salt, pepper, and fresh parsley; cook for 5 more minutes.
4-Fourth, mix in cream cheese to the filling and stir until well combined.
5-Fifth, fill each pastry shell with about 1 teaspoon of brie cheese and top with 1/2 teaspoon of raspberry jam.
6-Sixth, return the filled shells to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 6 minutes until the cheese melts and the jam is warm. Finally, optionally sprinkle 3 tablespoons of toasted slivered almonds on top for extra crunch. ๐ฅ Keep a close eye on the second bake – just 5-6 minutes is enough to melt the cheese without burning the delicate pastry
๐ง For best results, bring the pastry shells to room temperature for 10 minutes before the initial bake to ensure even cooking
๐ฏ Don’t overfill the pastry cups – too much filling can cause the delicate shells to become soggy or break during baking
